THE BAYSIDE OPPORTUNITY CENTER
An International District Hub for Portland, ME
A Community Multicultural, built with Bayside!
Senior members of the BNA realized that the BNA did not have the capacity to undertake a project of this magnitude. Therefore, the BNA formed a sister community development corporation, the Bayside Opportunity Center (BOC), to develop a community center.
The Bayside Opportunity Center will be a welcoming hub for language classes, job placement assistance, cultural orientation, community events, and referrals, helping residents connect with the resources and opportunities they need.
WHAT ARE WE UP TO RIGHT NOW?!
This fall, we’re bringing neighbors together through our English Conversation Groups. These relaxed, after-hours gatherings offer space to chat about everyday life, practice English, and learn from one another. Whether you’re learning English or joining as a conversation partner, you’re welcome. Come share your voice, network, and help us grow as neighbors. It’s good talk!
Bayside: Portland's International District
Home to 60+ languages and cultures, Bayside is where the world meets Portland. BOC is proud to serve as a hub connecting this vibrant, multicultural community.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO US?
The Bayside Opportunity Center is proud to serve as a hub for this international neighborhood, connecting residents, businesses, and institutions across cultures and generations.
Through programs like our ESOL Conversation Corner, community potlucks, and neighborhood outreach events, BOC works to strengthen the fabric of this multicultural community, welcoming new neighbors, supporting immigrant-owned businesses, and creating spaces where every resident can belong and thrive.
As Bayside continues to grow as an International District, BOC remains committed to celebrating that diversity while building the programs, partnerships, and resources that help our community flourish together.
“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”
